There will be no pre-school sessions until after Easter. Minnows will restart on April 25.
We will be starting Lent study groups next week (28 February) and 8 March. This year, we will be studying the Archbishop of Canterbury’s new book, Dethroning Mammon. This promises to be an interesting challenge. There will be one group in Oakwood on Tuesday evenings, hosted by John and Marion Ellis, and the other in Breadsall probably on Wednesday evenings, hosted by Dorreen Milner. These groups will be self contained so even if you have not been coming to the groups before, you will be welcome to join one of these groups just for Lent. Please contact Chris Prior for further information if needed.
Just a reminder that there will be NO service at 8am on January 1 2017 and that the service/brunch for Alison’s leaving will be at 1100 (until about 1245). Bacon sandwiches and toasties will be available.
The Christmas Schedule is now confirmed.
There will be a Carol Service on December 18th at 6.30pm
Christingle Services will be at 4pm and 6pm on Christmas Eve
Eucharist services will be at 11.30pm Christmas Eve and 8.00am Christmas Day
A family friendly Christmas Fun will be at 10.15am on Christmas Day
You will be welcome at any (or all) of these services.
It has been announced that the Rector, Alison Maddocks, will leave the parish from the end of this year. She has a new appointment in the Diocese of Worcester. We will all be sorry to see her and Nigel leave us after 5 and a half years.
Her leaving party will be on 1 January 2017 at 1100.
Many thanks to Adrian, Kathleen and Phil for coming down to the church and spending a few hours cleaning out trees, silt (and worse) from the gulleys and downpipes at the church. Hopefully, we should not get a recurrence of the water ingress caused by blocked drains (at least for the next few months).
The church played host to a picnic to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Official 90th birthday on June 12th. This had to be held indoors due to the inclement weather but a good time was had by all. This followed a service at which we welcomed back Sister Diana to preside due to the Rector being away on retreat. We also had a anthem sung by the choir which had been written by our Director of Music Ministry, Dana de Waal. This was a song of thanks for Her Majesty and her (and our) God. Some photos of the picnic are in the gallery.
Amber Hiddleston received her first communion last Sunday, accompanied by her parents Alex and Kate. Amber has been a member of the church almost since she was born and is a regular attender at Sunday School. We look forward to her continuing to develop and grow over the coming years.
